The Evans Family Tree
From Dolgellau, Wales to Cape Town, South Africa & the World
A Brief History of the Evans Family - Dolleau to Cape Town
Generations of my family's Evans' grew up in the small village of Dolgellau in Wales, but in the late 1800s, some of them left the United Kingdom in search of greener pastures. Some landed in the United States, but my great-grandfather landed in Cape Town, South Africa - and so our line of Evans started at the southern tip of Africa.
John Cadwalladr Evans was the first Welshman from our family to set foot in Cape Town. We sadly don't know much about him, apart from information gathered from his death certificate.
His son, Arthur Llewellyn (my grandfather), was a first generation South African Evans. Through my line, the Welsh heritage remains via our Christian names.
